Sunday’s Speedlinking 6-28-07

Right before I went on vacation, I read some articles that caught my attention. Since it has previously been a Sunday morning tradition to post links from OTHER blogs on this site, I will share what I read.

For this week my favorite articles are:

Aaron Potts launches Personal Development Partners.  A website dedicated to networking with like minded people. It basically connects you with someone interested in a certain field of personal development, and a certain location. I’m leaving for Israel in 1 hour as I write this, so I haven’t had time to thoroughly inspect the site. When you make your profile add me as a friend, my username is AlexShalman.

Leo at Zen Habits writes a guide to cultivate compassion in your life, with 7 practices.

  1. Morning ritual.
  2. Empathy practice.
  3. Commonalities practice.
  4. Relief of suffering practice.
  5. Act of kindness practice.
  6. Those who mistreat us practice.
  7. Evening routine.

J.D. at GetRichSlowly writes a guide to get out of debt. This is an old article from November 2006, but I still enjoy reading it. Here are the 3 easy steps, but you can read more in the article.

  1. Stop acquiring new debt.
  2. Establish an emergency fund.
  3. Implement a debt snowball.

Penelope Trunk guest posted on Problogger on How To Get To Get A Six Figure Book Deal From Your Blog. The 10 steps she lists are:

  1. Solve a problem.
  2. Have a big idea.
  3. If you’re in a niche, make it a big one.
  4. Have a big audience, but say they are old rather than young if you want a lot of money.
  5. Have a lot of blogger friends to promote the book, but talk mostly about USA Today.
  6. Follow conventions.
  7. Find someone to model yourself after.
  8. Your blog goes in the marketing section of your proposal.
  9. Trust that agents know a good proposal when they see one, but try again if you get a bad response.
  10. Use blog comments to train yourself for rejection.

Glen over at lifedev writes How to work for eight hours without hating yourself. He says the trick is to take breaks often, but take breaks that are still work. A break away from the computer could involve folding laundry. Read his article for a more in depth explanation.

This concludes this Sunday’s speedlinking. If you have any articles that you think I NEED to see then post this in the comments section below. I can’t gaurantee that I will have the time to read everyone’s articles, but if I do read them and I think my readers will find them useful I will include them in a future Sunday’s Speedlinking.
