You bring up a valid point Maria. This is something I'm planning on addressing in a future post. There are many ways to respectfully decline, or contradict someone.

These are good reminders, Alex, but I'm wondering how you define respectful. Some people may be under the impression that being respectful is the same as being "nice" or letting others have what they want all the time. To me, being respectful involves acknowledging your fellow human being as having as much worth as you and acting accordingly. It doesn't mean losing your boundaries or agreeing with someone out of a sense of obligation.

Anna,

I'm just giving some benefits as an extra incentive. You seem to be very respectful regardless =)

Being respectful isn't something someone should be because of xyz and all the benefits of it.. you should just be respectful cause you have no reason NOT to be unless the person who you're interacting with is rude, disrespectful, or mean to you... if someone is treating you nicely, why would you be anything other than nice back.. you make a good point about being the bigger person when you encounter someone who ISNT respectful- that takes a lot of tact and a lot of self-control.. and that essentially is an area that needs work in most people.. especially in the job/school environment where it's not okay to lose your cool.. anyways. pretty good post.
