Sunday’s Speedlinking 11-11-07

At Alex Shalman . com – Practical Personal Development the Sunday morning tradition is me posting links, to my favorite articles for the week, from OTHER blogs. I feel like this is a good way to bring attention to quality writing that my readers might not get a chance to see otherwise.

For this week my favorite articles are:

Charles Q. Choi over at LiveScience covers some research on how Emotions Run Amok in Sleep-Deprived Brains. So, if you’re constantly depriving yourself of sleep, perhaps this would be a good time to catch some extra Zzz. [found via LifeDev]

Steven Sternberg, of USAToday writes about a study that links birth control pills to artery clogging plaque. It is very rare that I take any medicine when I’m sick. I usually prefer drinking water, and plenty of rest. I always wonder what the long-term side effects of medications will be.

Researchers used ultrasound to test the carotid arteries on each side of the neck and femoral arteries in each leg. A woman’s odds of having plaque in one carotid artery went up by 17% and in both carotids by 42% for every 10 years of pill use. The odds of having plaque in a single femoral artery went up by 28% and in both by 34%.

John Wesley, my friend from Pick The Brain writes about the single most essential tip for time management. His claim is that you need to “Cut off activities at the point of diminishing returns.”

Leo Babauta from Zen Habits, the author of Zen To Done has written his own review of Zen To Done that I think will be an interest to you if you are still on the fence about reading the book.

Brian Kim, author of The Hidden Secret In Think And Grow Rich, has an interesting article about “acting as if” and how visualization can build momentum for success.

Personal Development Scoop:

If you’ve written, or read a personal development article that you would like to share with us, you now have that opportunity. Please use the contact form to e-mail me a link to the article, so that I can review it for a future Sunday’s Speedlinking.
