Turn Anticipation Anxiety Into Excitement

Have you ever noticed how desire and anticipation are sometimes more exciting and profound than obtaining the object that we yearn for? Whether we’re anticipating a vacation, wanting to get to know a person we saw from a far, or hungry for an appetizing dish, we are assuming that we will be receiving a certain amount of value or enjoyment upon ‘arriving at our destination.’
Often times we rush hastily and abruptly to reach our goals without thoroughly savoring the journey and enjoying the present. Unfortunately, on more than one occasion we are faced with disappointment as we find that the level of enjoyment that we receive from acquisition was not nearly as promising as our imagination had promised it to be.
The key is to get excited about the future, while at the same time slowing down to relish the path in which we have found ourselves. If we’re planning for a month to meet someone we really admire, our mind will fill itself with glorious images of the encounter. By slowing down and enjoying these thoughts and feelings, even if the day we meet the person is a big disappointment, we already had a month of fun pretending.
If you think about it, there is no real reality, there is only apparent reality. That which we perceive for ourselves is the only thing that is alive within our reality. Why not fill our reality with thoughts of excitement rather than anxiety and disappointment.
