Happiness Project: Jonathan Fields of Awake At The Wheel

Jonathan Fields is…a giddy dad, husband, New Yorker, multi-time health & fitness industry entrepreneur, recovering S.E.C./mega-firm hedge-fund lawyer, slightly-warped, unusually-stretchy, spiritually-inclined, obsessed with creation, direct-response copywriter, small-biz and online marketing-maven, speaker, entrepreneur-coach, yoga-teacher, columnist, author, once-a-decade hook-rug savant and blogger…gone wild at Awake At The Wheel.
Jonathan is an interesting case of ‘getting it’ via tragedy. While earning his 6 figure salary as a high powered lawyer, Jonathan had to go into emergency surgery, brought on by the stress that came with the job. Rethinking his life, and discovering that “big-picture happiness” meant hanging out with his wife and daughter more, Jonathan first developed a successful personal training, and now Yoga training facility.
Jonathan now has the experience of getting paid for this huge ideas that led him to create his own successful businesses. He launched a boutique marketing and entrepreneurship catalyst group, Vibe Creative. If you want to know the next step in the life of a man that truley follows his passions, you’ll have to watch the video at the bottom of his about page (worth it!).

1. How do you define happiness?
The ability to do what I love with people I love
2. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your happiness now, versus when you were a child?
I was a pretty happy kid and am a pretty happy/fulfilled adult. I’d say I hover around an 8 now and that was probably pretty similar as a kid
3. What do you do on a daily basis that brings you happiness? (and how consistent is the feeling of happiness throughout your day)
I spend the greatest amount of time possible absorbed in activities that fill me up, surrounded by people I cannot get enough of. This is true on both a professional and personal level. And, as an entrepreneur, I get to pick the people I surround myself with. In fact, that is probably the best part about being an entrepreneur.
4. What things take away from your happiness? What can be done to lessen their impact or remove them from your life?
Anything that requires me to allocate energy without substantial purpose or personal fulfillment. For example, in my businesses, there are many things that fill me up and many that empty me out. So, I work to identify which tasks fall into the latter category and delegate as much of those things out to others, preferably to others who enjoy doing the things I don’t.
5. What do you plan on doing in the future that will bring you even more happiness?
Brother, I’m doing it right now. Spending time with family and friends, writing, speaking, building businesses, helping others do the same and changing lives. So, simply put, more of the same.

Wow! I can so idenify with the tasks “that empty me out” I never thought about delegating the wprk to people who actually ENJOY doing it though!
