Priorities are a personal matter meaning that no two people's priorities will be the same. You might want to be promoted at work whereas a coworker might be interested in running a marathon. Another coworker might be saving to start a home-based business so that they can better raise their family. The bottom line is this: Individual priorities will be as varied as the individual. Don't try to compare yours to others, it just won't add up.
In setting priorities in your life, you first have to know your own values. This may be very clear to you or require some thought. A helpful exercise is trying to picture what you want your life to be like in five years. The things that are a priority to you in your mind do translate into your life when you focus on them.

this is realy great article i love it thanks for sharing this keep it up

The best tip I ever learnt for sticking to my prioirites was to write them down and put them somewhere constantly visible.

That way, I'm always reminded what really matters when I go off course.

@Armen: I've suffered from the do-it-all-myself symptom many, many times. I've since learned my lesson and started outsourcing and that's helped me make more money as a real estate agent.

@Craig: Everybody deserves a reward for a job well-done. I found a lot of people don't realize how motivating this can be. And some rewards can be free like giving yourself permission to relax and simply do nothing for a day. Not only is it a reward, it can also be a good way to rejuvenate yourself.

@Gary: You're absolutely right. Nothing beats action.

@Jonathan: Yup, clear and concise goals are essential to help you achieve what you want in life. But it's sad that many people don't set goals or set very vague goals. I certainly hope readers of AlexShalman.com will make a commitment to determine their own goals in life.

Cheers~

Your right without clear goals, you will just wander to life coming stimuli. Use your dreams and desired to propel you into right action. Be clear and concise. You'll save, time money and wasted effort and energy!

Rewarding yourself is very powerful in my opinion. I used to fly through goals, crossing off and not feeling any sense of accomplishment even though it took the best part of the day and a lot of effort. I now have a list of things I want to buy which I reward myself with when I've completed certain goals. :)

Hi Mark.

#5 there can be a tough one to handle for someone who wants to "do it all", at least in their mind. It's good to first accept reality, and then do things that press upon the limits of reality. That is better than expecting that we can do it all in an unrealistic fashion, and then being disappointed when it doesn't work out as envisioned due to time constraints.

Keeping focus is something I am glad to do, and I am getting better at it as I work on it. The more focused we are, the less we can get derailed from any mission we may have.

@Wayne: I do take a take a step back sometimes to take a better look at my priorities. It's easier when you do that.

@Oscar: I'm glad you find the tips here useful! All the best!

@Amit: Wow... That sounds really exciting. I hope you have a great time then. :)

@Fas: Oh yes, that's to motivate yourself. Sometimes we're so focused on working toward our goals that we forget to reward ourselves.

Cheers~

Nice and timely tips. For 2010, I take a step back and really look at my priorities in life as well as business. This has helped me a lot in determining the goals that I would like to achieve in 2010 without having to see most of them end up in next year's list of goals.
