Ideas are great, but practice is better. You wouldn't hire someone to be an accountant without ensuring they had proper training, but many managers get promoted into the role without any idea how to manage people. Then they are forced to learn on the job, sometimes with bad results. It's not fair to them or the people under them.
Look for a good training program, like Crestcom or Dale Carnegie or something in your area.

I love how all you tips are all about leading by serving the needs of others and not just leading by dominating. It reminded me of an article I just read: http://budurl.com/4pvp
I have a great boss right now. She's the nicest person I know. And she does everything in that list. And I become more productive because of it. Actually, it's a lot harder than what most people realize. I guess with comedy shows showing incompetent bosses. Those are really bad examples that we shouldn't follow. And even if we're not the boss we must show a kind of leadership in our homes and our friends. And not the kind of boss that is bossy and domineering. But those that possess the list Mark has given.

Awesome post. If a boss was to follow through those tips he/she would be very affective. One thing I disliked about the post is the continued use of 'subordinates' assuming they are beneath you - very un-motivating to an employee or member of a team imo.
