I ran for the position of Class Council President for my New York University School of Dentistry class – for our first year. I lost. While not every attempt can result in a win, I believe that we can learn from just about everything.

The sound quality isn’t the best, but it’s doable – I’m putting myself on the line for constructive criticism of my public speaking skills. That means don’t criticize my jet-black matrix looking outfit (I will only interpret it as jealousy, hehe), just let me know what you think about the delivery.

As you know I’m always into improving my skills, and I really want to become a master storyteller. I don’t expect it to happen overnight, but I do like to take advantages of opportunities like this where I spoke in front of about 120 people.

Some things you might want to comment on are: my movements and gestures, my tone and pitch, the feelings you got about the content, how persuasive did I come off, what turned you off about the speech, etc.

The topic of suicide is very much a taboo, one that most people shy away from. Despite the proclaimed anathema, suicide continues to be a huge problem, whether we think about it or not. I’m shocked to see some of the statistics for teenage suicide, as well as for adults.

“Anyone desperate enough for suicide…should be desperate enough to go to creative extremes to solve problems: elope at midnight, stow away on the boat to New Zealand and start over, do what they always wanted to do but were afraid to try.”
~Richard Bach

After writing the article 10 Simple Ways To Commit Suicide, thousands of people have come to this website looking for easy ways to kill themselves. I never realized it was such a problem until the statistics showed a constant flow of people, increasing consistently, looking for these search terms.

Although I’ve personally never entertained the thought of killing myself, I did date someone who occasionally threatened to commit suicide several years ago. She never did do it. While 1 out of 1 is a 100% success ratio, this does not by any means make me an expert in the field.

What I’m looking to do is to start an interactive discussion. If you’ve attempted suicide in the past, if you know someone who has attempted or committed suicide, and certainly if you’re entertaining the thought I’d like to invite you to share your story.

Hopefully this discussion will allow people to get certain things off their chest, and allow others to shed light on the negatives of suicide and hopefully turn people off from this decision.

Who

If you’ve attempted to commit suicide

If you know someone who attempted suicide

If you know someone who killed themselves

If you’re thinking about committing suicide

What

If you have a story to share about how attempted suicide or someone killing themselves has impacted your life

Where

Use the comments area below this post

When

This is an ongoing discussion and you can jump in at any time.

Why

Why do people entertain the thought of killing themselves? From the comments on the previous post, and the e-mails that I have been receiving, here is what I think — feel free to add anything else you can think of.

Eating Disorders

Abuse, Rape, and Molestation

Substance Abuse

Love Gone Wrong

Financial Problems

Confusion and Indecision

Ongoing Depression

Unbearable Stress

Chronic Illness

Why do I choose this topic? I feel like it’s important to bring more light to this topic. If even one person feels better from this post, gets inspiration from this site, then I feel like I’ve done my part in the world.

How

Bookmark this page on your web browser or on del.icio.us and come back often to keep up with the conversation. This will make following the conversation much easier.

Use the subscribe to comments button in order to get an e-mailed copy of the lasted comment right to your e-mail box. This will also make following the conversation must faster and easier.

Subscribing to this blog is definitely one thing I can think of that’s better than committing suicide (and don’t forget to Stumble this article to spread the word.) In the mean time I’m doing more research about this topic. I’m looking for a suicide center nearby where I can receive training and volunteer.

Keep the comments clean!

I’ve been speaking through e-mail with my friend Steve Pavlina. He stresses that since my site is getting a good amount of traffic now, it’s becoming increasingly important for me to do something riskee. That is, to take a risk and do something different.

Something about that rings painfully true. If I’m going to keep doing what I have been doing, I’m going to be getting the same results that I’ve always gotten. In order for me to break into a new level I’ll have to do something that’s different from what I’ve been doing. Seems very logical to me.

Steve suggested to take on a 30 day experiment. I told him he took all the good ones already (kidding, of course). He pointed me to the most important idea generating source that I have at my disposal, at least when it comes to creating content for this blog — you, my reader.

After all, this site is here for you, more so than it is for me, and what you want to see is always taken into account. With that said, I’d like to hear what you have to say.

Get into the comments, and and let me have it. Get as creative and wacky as you want, and let your imagination run wild. Give me 30 day experiments that will improve my life, might improve your life, or something that you think is utterly impossible but totally beneficial.

If you’ve been reading, but having been responding to this point, this is the perfect time to jump into the conversation. What do you think I’m going to do, fire you as my reader if you say the wrong thing? You’re safe with me.

In a couple of weeks, from August 12 to 24, I’m going to be away at Mt. Sinai retreat. It’s basically a personal development retreat where we’ll get to do fun activities, have courses on self-improvement through Judaism, and hang out with one of the Holiest Rabbis in the world – Rabbi Gershenfeld.

From what I’ve been told he “is a genius” and “really amazing.” I’m really excited for this opportunity to stick to him like glue and pick his brain.

I can already see us, sitting in a shade underneath a tree, or by the lulling-glow of camp-fire, asking this tremendous aura about the deepest meanings of existence.

Not only would I love to ask all my own questions, but I’d love to include every one of you in this magical experience.

If you have any questions about Judaism, or questions about life for a person that knows it like the back of his hand, feel free to list them in the comments below (or e-mail them to me privately), and I’ll ask the Rabbi when I’m there.

Feel free to include any questions from now through August 24th, because I’ll be checking them while I’m there.

Pleasure is the ultimate goal of every human, from the most ignorant to the wisest, and from the most arrogant to the most humble. Pleasure is the ultimate goal, whether you like it or not.

However, pleasure has many dimensions, and perhaps isn’t as straight forward as you once imagined it to be. I have previously written an article on pleasure, and I’ve separated it into five different levels.

Physical and Material Pleasure

Love (Not Infatuation)

A Great Cause

The Power To Create

A Touch of God

Pick your favorite level, a couple of levels, or all the levels. In the comments below, list some of the pleasures that are your absolute favorites from the categories you picked.

This is your chance to participate in the blog. If you can’t find a pleasure, you aren’t human. With that said, if you are a human reading this blog, go into the comments and tell me your pleasure, whatever it may be.

Today I was reading an article written by the CEO of 5WPR, Ronn Torossian. His public relations firm has been the fastest growing for four years running and currently has about 100 employees. He represents companies such as Barnes & Noble, Evian, McDonald’s, Sean John, XM Satellite Radio, and LifeStyle Condoms just to name a few.

Clearly this man is super productive, and when I spoke to him after his speech a couple of months ago he told me he wakes up in the wee hours of the morning to work out before starting his work day. Indeed he looks in shape, and seems perfectly healthy.

In today’s article Ronn writes about working hard. There is no question that he worked hard and has been super productive in order to reach such a level of growth in such a competitive niche. He did this by working hours that far exceeded the standard 9-5.

His recommendation to getting ahead in the PR industry is to bring your BlackBerry home from work, be accessible, and keep on top of things. I think that’s a great way to get ahead at work. However, I’m not quite sure that such work habits are conducive to work-life-family balance.

I know that for myself it is important to balance out my health, my family, and my career goals in order for me to get a holistic experience of well-being. However, I’m not the CEO of a company with 100 employees, what do I know? I have a lot of respect for Ronn, and I think he is a great individual, so this article is not to second guess him, but to start a conversation on life-balance.

Do you think employees should take their BlackBerry home from work so they can receive e-mails, keep on top of breaking news, and be easily accessible by their employees? Do you think it’s more important to leave work at work and concentrate on our selves and the people in our lives that we value? Voice your opinions.

You guys really stepped up to the plate last week when I asked for Your Best Tip To Waste Money from which we created the Experienced Wasters: 100 Ways To Blow Your Debt Through The Wall.

Many people related to and said they would take action when they saw the final product. What’s the reason for this? It’s because a large group of people gave the article many different view points.

Together we were able to touch a larger audience and attract even more new readers to the site. Seems like a win-win situation to me.

Let’s take a look at a topic that’s even more important than money. This time we’re talking about TIME! You’ve heard that time is money, and that without time there is no use for money, so let’s see where we’re throwing away this valuable resource.

Identify Your Biggest Time Sinks

Use these questions as a suggestion for how to tell us about your biggest time sinks. Feel free to tell us any small or large way that you waste time.

Where do you waste the most time?

Which activities are the biggest waste of time?

Which people are the biggest waste of time?

Which time of the day is the least productive for you?

I’m very proud to have such an awesome group of readers. I’ll start off the first Time Sink and you join me in the comments section below!

You guys have been so good with the commenting in the past couple of months, that I’ve gotten the opportunity to get to know more of you than ever before.

This is why I’ve decided to add a new type of post to the site called Ask The Readers. You guys are a really smart bunch, and always willing to give some feedback.

Since this is my first time attempting one of these, I ask that everyone pitch in and give their best tips in the comments section. I think this is a question that everyone can relate to, so don’t hold back! If you want to give more than one tip, that’s fine too.

Let me elaborate more on the question to you, so that you have more to work with.

What is the best way to waste money on a daily, monthly, yearly bases?

What purchases tend to be the biggest waste of money?

What fees tend to be unfair and lead to wasted money?

What is a quick way to increase debt?

Feel free to use humor and sarcasm to answer these questions if you so choose. The reason I chose to ask about wasting money, rather than saving money is that it adds a funny twist to money management, while being educational at the same time.

After you guys are done, I’m going to compile all the tips into a separate post, and together we can educate each other, and the world, on what things to AVOID in order to save some cash! i’ll start it off, now go crazy in the comments!
